Desert Mountain Ride

Riders seem so small in the great expanse of the Southwestern desert mountains.
In the spirit of Oriental landscape painting where humans are depicted small compared to the environment, I painted this to show the grandeur of the desert mountains in the state of Arizona. Riding horses is an integral component of the Western lifestyle. There is still a strong community and culture of equine aficionados throughout out the West. Horseback is sometimes the only way to reach certain points in the sometimes foreboding and rugged expanses of these mountains. Once out on the trail one is reminded that as humans, as well as our horses, are but small creatures in an overwhelmingly large and magnificent landscape and that every sight along the trails are breathtaking.
