Cowboys enjoying a coffee break and a smoke during round up.
The work of a cowboy is hard and physically taxing. It is not nearly as glamorous as the western films make it out to be. Short breaks from the rigorous work at branding time, or from riding the range flushing cattle out of the brush and herding them are welcomed. Coffee and a hand rolled smoke are very much a part of the American cowboy history. I sought to portray that feeling in this piece. Watercolor can be used to achieve fluid and relaxed visual style. That helps with giving the viewer that sense of the moment of relaxation that these guys are enjoying before getting back to tending cattle.
