Canyons and chasms are all over the southwest landscape. They make for quite interesting subject matter.
The Grand Canyon was the chasm that stopped the Spanish Conquistadors on their trek in their search for the fabled Cities of Gold. I have hiked and painted that chasm and many others in the decades I have lived in Arizona. The cool thing about painting canyons is all the different perspectives you can view in them. The light is also a great ever-changing element when painting them. Colors on the walls of canyons can change as you are looking at them as the sun light changes. Light and color as well as the multi-textured landscapes make creating Southwest landscape paintings a true joy. This painting is not specifically of the Grand Canyon or any other canyon. I conjured up this one in my mind.
