I Need You Back

$275.00$325.00

This is the first COVID inspired painting I did. It symbolizes the feeling of loss that comes with a COVID sickness that becomes serious enough for intubation.

COVID – 19 caught humanity by surprise and unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude in our lifetime. I painted this image in the first weeks of the pandemic when the parameters of how serious and deadly it may be were still mostly unknown. Humans were dying from it. Some were getting frighteningly sick, requiring hospitalization and intubation. Fear of the unknown factors of this virus permeated our species. I wanted to portray a symbolic image of that fear of loss. As well as the hope of recovery and return that those who had to deal with a loved one having gotten COVID were experiencing. The ship on the water symbolizes those two possibilities, sailing away or returning to safe harbor. The flowers in the woman’s hand symbolize both hope of renewal and recovery, or remembrance of loss. Her gaze was intended to portray the longing for her loved one on the ship to return, and the importance of that person in her life. Hence the title. The longest of human life is but a brief breath of existence. Sudden and unexpected loss of one close and dear to us is a reminder of that truth.

Reproduction sizes available: 18” x 24” on canvas and metal.
